This is Abby Carr’s first national honor, as she helped the Tigers beat No. 4/6 Alabama on Saturday, March 21, 5-2.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou softball RHP/DP Abby Carr (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette HS) was named as the Softball America Freshman Star of the Week for the week of March 16-22, the publication announced on Tuesday, March 24.
The award is the first-career weekly honor for the freshman, and it marks the first national award for the Tigers since Laurin Krings was named D1Softball Pitcher of the Week last season.
Carr was instrumental in Mizzou's win over No. 4/6 Alabama on Saturday, March 21, as she collected her first career save after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings. In that outing, she struck out three and allowed just one hit to the Crimson Tide's offense, as the Tigers won 5-2.
On the mound in the five-game span, the freshman posted a .00 ERA in 4.2 innings of work and struck out five batters.
The freshman proved to be a pivotal player throughout the week, as she finished with a .300 batting average, three home runs and four RBIs in the five games this week. Most of her productivity came against Alabama, as she posted her first career multi-home run game in the rubber match on Sunday, March 22. Carr drove in all three runs for the Tigers, as her other RBI came in the form of a solo home run in Game One – Friday, March 20.
