The Tigers improved to 8-16 on the season, as they are now 1-1 in midweek games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou softball (8-16, 0-3 SEC) rattled UT Martin's (13-11, 1-2 OVC) feathers, as the Tigers took home their second five-inning run rule of the season, 8-0, on Wednesday, March 11 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
The Tigers used a strong offensive start and a dominant outing in the circle from Cierra Harrison to secure the run-rule victory.
Missouri struck first in the opening inning as Addy Waits opened the game with a leadoff single and stole second to move into scoring position. Stefania Abruscato followed with an RBI double to bring Waits home and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Abby Hay kept the momentum going with an RBI single to center field, scoring Abruscato and extending Missouri's lead to 2-0.
In the circle, Harrison set the tone early with a perfect first inning, recording two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 frame.
The Tigers extended their lead in the second inning with a three-run rally. Kayley Lenger reached on a bunt single and stole second before Waits delivered an RBI single to right field to bring her home. After a pitching change by UT Martin, Abruscato ripped a double to the warning track in CF before Sidney Forrester drove in another run with a single to left field. Hay capped the scoring in the inning with her second career triple to bring the Tigers' lead to five.
Harrison continued to control the game in the middle innings, recording her fourth strikeout in the third before working around a single to keep UT Martin off the scoreboard. In the fourth inning, Harrison added another strikeout while retiring the side in order.
Missouri added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game out of reach. Waits again led off the inning with a single before Abby Carr lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score her. Sophie Smith followed with a two-RBI double to right center, bringing home two more runs and extending the Tigers' lead to 8-0.
