Simmons, Rodriguez Named SEC Players of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. — A pair of Tigers earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors. The conference announced Monday morning that quarterback Austin Simmons and linebacker Nicholas Rodriguez were named offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, following the win over eighth-ranked Florida.

Simmons connected on 23-of-30 passing attempts for 340 yards, the most passing yards against the Gators since former No. 1 overall NFL Draft choice Cam Ward. The Miami, Fla., native also connected for a pair of touchdowns which were crucial in giving Mizzou its first-half lead.

Rodriguez posted his fourth-straight double-digit tackling performance with a game-high 11 against No. 8 Florida – the first Tiger with four consecutive such games since the 2018 season. The junior captain matched his career-best 1.5 TFL and was key in the defensive effort against Florida’s dangerous rushing attack, holding the Gators to just 42 yards on the ground.

No. 14 Missouri concludes its two-game homestand, hosting Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. on ABC.
