COLUMBIA, Mo. – The renewal of the Mizzou and Saint Louis men’s basketball rivalry has a new title sponsor in Regions Bank, which signed a three-year deal to present the Regions Bank Show Me Showdown.
The schools are starting a three-game series on Friday, November 6, renewing a rivalry that dates back to 1931. While the Tigers and Billikens have played 40 times previously – with Mizzou holding a 21-19 advantage – the schools are meeting for just the third time in the last 45 years and the first since 2001.
As part of the series – with all three games in St. Louis – a new logo was designed and will feature prominently in the lead-up to the contest. Regions Bank will also have activations on site at Enterprise Center, as well as throughout the LED videoboard displays.
“We’re excited to renew our basketball rivalry with Saint Louis and are thrilled to have a terrific partner in Regions Bank as the presenting sponsor of the game,” said Mizzou Director of Athletics Laird Veatch. “We’re grateful to see another powerful corporate brand in the St. Louis market invest in the value of partnering with Mizzou Athletics, continuing the momentum we’ve built in the region. It has been too long since these two schools have battled on the court, and we look forward to bringing this matchup back in less than two weeks for the Regions Bank Show Me Showdown.”
"This matchup reflects the tradition, pride and competitive spirit that make college athletics special," said Scott Hartwig, Commercial Banking leader and Greater St. Louis market president for Regions Bank. "The renewal of this rivalry offers sports fans the chance to reconnect with a storied chapter of Missouri basketball history as a new one begins. Regions is proud to help support its return through the Show Me Showdown."
The partnership was facilitated by Mizzou Sports Properties, the locally based team of Learfield – the media and technology company powering college sports – and exclusive multimedia rights holders for Mizzou Athletics. Regions Bank is the Official Bank of the Southeastern Conference.
Tipoff on November 6 for the Regions Bank Show Me Showdown is set for 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
