COLUMBIA, S.C. – Mizzou soccer was unable to overcome No. 17 South Carolina, falling 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at South Carolina Soccer Complex’s Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.

The Tigers (3-7-1, 0-4-0 Southeastern Conference) were outshot by a 16-5 margin in the Gamecocks’ (10-1-0, 4-0-0 SEC) favor. Junior Landis Canada (Fenton, Mich.) led MU with two shots.

"I thought we competed tough, and Kate Phillips (Fishers, Ind.) was sharp again in goal to keep us in it early,” head coach Stefanie Golan said. “But you can't give a team like South Carolina extra looks, and we've got to do a better job keeping the ball and getting to the wide areas so we're not chasing the game. When we did get in, we just have to be sharper with that final ball."

Missouri’s offense found an opportunity early, as sophomore Aly Bryant (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) found Canada for a shot off a corner kick before it was blocked by a South Carolina defender, the team’s first attempt of the match, in the eighth. MU held its adversary to just a pair of shots in the opening 22 minutes.

Senior Phillips finished with four saves on the day, turning away two of South Carolina’s eight shots in the first half until it found the back of the net in the 42nd minute.

The Black & Gold again found a chance early in the second frame. Senior Monica Brauner (Kansas City, Mo.) connected with Canada to put a shot just off wide-right from just inside the penalty box in the 53rd. The sides held firm until the Gamecocks doubled their lead in the 71st and pushed it to a 3-0 result in the 80th.
