COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou cross country saw its women’s team claim a first-place finish in the eighth-annual Gans Creek Classic at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course Friday morning.

The 29th-ranked women’s team earned its first Gans Creek Classic victory since 2019 and first home victory since the 2025 Mizzou XC opener. The 80-point difference between the Tigers and second-place Kentucky is the largest margin of victory in course history.

“The women had a great performance,” head cross country coach Kyle Levermore said. “We were rewarded pretty well for getting off the line and getting in good position. We had a conversation with the women on Thursday and talked to them about the things we want to work to get a sense of where we're at. I thought they executed really well, and our pack running was fantastic today. To have four women under 20 minutes, I'm really excited about our depth."

The women were led by a trio of top-10 finishers. Sophomore Monica Wanjiku led the women’s team with a fifth-place finish in 19:18.3. The Kaimbu, Kenya, native notched her second-best finish in the 6K, just trailing her 19:17.4 performance last season in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Senior Rahel Broemmel trailed just behind, finishing sixth with a personal-best time of 19:38.7. Capping the top-10 Tigers was sophomore Suzy Lecoutre, who clocked a career-best time of 19:41.8 to capture a ninth-place finish.

The 15th-ranked men’s team finished sixth overall and placed multiple runners inside the top 30. Elijah Limo led the charge for the Tigers with a time of 23:19.1, earning a 21st-place finish. Sophomore Raymond Kipkoech finished in a personal-best time of 23:24.5 to claim 26th overall.
