SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Mizzou soccer controlled long stretches of play but was unable to find the net, falling 1-0 at Missouri State on an 85th-minute goal Sunday afternoon at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.

The Tigers (1-2-1) put offensive pressure on the Bears (1-2-0) for the entirety of the second half, outshooting their opponent 6-2 in the final 45 minutes of play. Missouri led Missouri State in shots (9-5) and corner kicks (10-3).

Missouri set the tempo early, earning five corner kicks in the opening half as junior Landis Canada (Fenton, Mich.) and freshman Audrey Gilbert (Frisco, Texas) found early looks. Senior goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) denied Missouri State’s first on-target attempt in the 28th minute to keep the match scoreless at the break.

The Tigers produced their best stretch out the gates of the second frame, stringing together three consecutive corner kicks and nearly breaking through in the 51st minute, when junior Emily Derucki’s (Wildwood, Mo.) attempt ricocheted off the top crossbar.

Senior Brianna Buels (Indianapolis, Ind.) fired just over moments later, and freshman Rylie Morse (Lebanon, Ohio), forced a save from the Missouri State keeper in the 67th minute. 

Freshman Lana Adams’ (Perryville, Mo.) first collegiate shot came in the 75th minute, recovering the ball and putting a left-footed attempt just barely to the left of the goalpost.

Missouri State made its chance count in the 85th minute, converting the game's lone goal against the run of play.

The Tigers pushed for an equalizer down the stretch, with Canada’s 89th-minute shot hitting the top post. Wilkerson finished with two saves in goal.
