McDevitt, Durnin Selected on First Day of 2026 MLB Draft

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A pair of Mizzou Baseball standouts were selected on day one of the 2026 MLB Draft Saturday as RHP Josh McDevitt (Arizona Diamondbacks; Round 4, Pick 116) and shortstop Kam Durnin (Houston Astros; Round 4, Pick 121) were selected within five picks of each other in the fourth round.

McDevitt’s selection by the Diamondbacks at No. 116 made him the highest draft pick for Mizzou since Kameron Misner (No. 35) and TJ Sikkema (No. 38) each went in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Durnin’s name was called by the Astros five picks later at No. 121 overall.

The duo’s selection in the fourth round marked the sixth time in program history with a pair of Tigers each picked within the first four rounds. Overall, McDevitt and Durnin became the 32nd and 33rd Tigers in program history picked within the top four rounds of the draft. The pair became the highest draft picks of the Kerrick Jackson era, also marking four-straight seasons with at least two players drafted under Jackson’s guidance.

McDevitt broke out during his junior campaign, emerging as the Tigers’ Friday night ace and posting a 4.42 ERA over a team-high 79.1 innings. He led the squad and ranked top 15 in the SEC with 102 strikeouts while opponents batted just .211 against him. The righty ranked sixth nationally and second in the SEC among all pitchers who threw 500-plus fastballs with a 30.8 percent whiff rate, according to D1Baseball’s Synergy Stats. McDevitt limited opponents to four hits or fewer in 10 of his 15 starts and struck out six-plus in 12 of his 15 starts.

After being named Appalachian Leage Player of the Year with a record-breaking summer a year ago, Durnin led the Mizzou offense in all three slashing departments after transferring in from Wichita State, posting a .329/.438/.570 line with nine homers, a triple, nine doubles and 25 RBI. He ranked second on the squad with 52 hits despite missing the season’s first dozen games due to injury and swiped a team-best 11 bases, all while playing elite defense at shortstop (.974).

The MLB Draft resumes tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT (Rounds 5-20) on MLB.com and MLB.TV.
