Funck Earns Second Consecutive 1500m Victory at Day One of Rock Chalk Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Missouri track and field's Lasse Funck clinched his second consecutive 1500m victory on day one of the Rock Chalk Classic on Friday at Rock Chalk Park.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Missouri track and field's Lasse Funck clinched his second consecutive 1500m victory on day one of the Rock Chalk Classic on Friday at Rock Chalk Park.

TOP TIGERS

Funck earned the champion title with a personal best of 3:41.25, the No. 2 all-time result for Missouri history. The senior's win marked a back-to-back victory in the event, following his Drake Relays performance of 3:43.97.

RECAP

Tyler Freiner represented the Tigers in the men's 5000m with a second place finish of  14:06.70, a personal record and the program's No. 10 all-time result. 

Elissa Barnard tallied a personal best in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 4:39.68 to place 12th. 

The 5000m saw Natalie Barnard establish a personal best of 17:15.57 to finish fourth.

Sophomore Charlotte Cullen, running unattached, notched event titles in the 1500m and 5000m, with respective results of 4:31.23 and 16:45.29, the latter marking a personal best.

The hammer throw squad took home silver for the women and men, with Kaitlyn Morningstar leading the women with a 52.48m (172-2) and Sam Innes spearheading the men with a 67.84m (222-7). Garik Pozecki claimed fourth with a 63.61m (208-8), a personal best and the program's No. 9 all-time mark.

The women filled out second through fifth place in the javelin throw, with Morgan Cannon recording a 47.12m (154-7) to trailblaze for the Tigers. Val Galligan followed in third with a throw of 46.93m (153-11), with Marysa Flieg securing fourth with a 45.47m (149-2). Adrienne Russell rounded out the top five with a 44.52m (146-1).
