Mierl Jumps into Top Five at Folds of Honor Collegiate

Sophomore Trent Mierl led the Mizzou men's golf program during a strong second day of play for the Tigers, helping MU jump four spots in the team standings as Mierl moved into the top five as an individual on Tuesday.
Mierl carded a four-under 67 on the day, rising 29 spots on the leaderboard as he now sits third overall of 75 golfers at -1. Mierl's 67 matches the low round of the tournament through two days as overall leader William Jennings of Alabama also carded a -4 on Tuesday.
After an opening day 74, Mierl didn't waste any time on Tuesday moving up the leaderboard as he birdied the first before adding a trio of birdies on six, seven and eight to finish off a front nine of 32. He then added a clean back nine with one birdie and eight pars for the final tally of -4.
Overall, Mizzou moved from 10th to sixth in the team standings, recording the fourth-best score of the day with a tally of 284 – a 14-stroke improvement from the opening day. Alabama leads the tournament at -3, followed by Notre Dame (E), Kansas (+7), Grand Valley State (+8) and California (+12). Among the teams tied with Mizzou at +14 is Florida State, ranked ninth in the preseason coaches poll.
Four Tigers sit in the top half of the leaderboard overall after the strong second day. Juniors Bradley Mulder and Veikka Viskari both carded a one-over 72 with three birdies apiece on Tuesday. Mulder now ranks 30th at +5 (75-72), while Viskari is 36th at +6 (76-72). Freshman Reese Roberts also remains in the top 25 with his second-straight 73 to start the season.
Mizzou aims to finish its opening tournament on a high note when the action tees off on Wednesday morning at 10:27 a.m. CT.
