No. 14 Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime at Vanderbilt

Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt forced overtime with a late 3-pointer and then scored a 97-93 victory over No. 14/16 University of Missouri men's basketball on Saturday night. The Tigers drop to 21-8 and 10-6 in SEC play, while the Commodores improve to 20-9 and 8-8 versus league foes.

MIZZOU LEADERS
The Tigers were led by 28 points from graduate student Caleb Grill, who connected on 9-of-19 field goals with three triples and seven free throws.

Junior Mark Mitchell also scored 20 points to go with a team-best seven rebounds. Sophomore Anthony Robinson II added 16 points, five assists and three steals, while senior Tamar Bates matched his teammate with 16 points.

GAME RECAP
Grill gave the visitors the early lead with his hot shooting. He went on an 11-1 run on his own – knocking down three triples with one layup – as the Tigers went in front by nine, 16-7.

Vanderbilt used a 10-0 spurt to pull ahead by a point, 19-18, but the Tigers used a 14-4 stretch to finish the first half for a nine-point lead at the break, 38-29.

The first half led to a back-and-forth second stanza at Memorial Gymnasium. A 9-3 strech put the hosts in front for the first time in the second half, 57-56. Mizzou responded with a 7-0 run to quickly reclaim its advantage, 63-57, before Vanderbilt would answer with a 7-0 spurt of its own for a 69-67 edge.

Trailing by two points, 71-69, the Tigers would pull in front thanks to another run, this one 8-0 for a 77-71 lead. Jacob Crews gave Mizzou the advantage with a step-back triple before Mitchell and Bates added a further five points for the six-point edge. Vanderbilt, however, used a 10-4 run in the final 75 seconds, including a 3-pointer with 2.3 ticks remaining to send the game into overtime.

The Commodores were able to take advantage of their extra life in the extra session, making 4-of-5 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws for the four-point win, 97-93.

TEAM STATS
The Tigers made 49.1 percent of their field goals with a 9-of-22 mark from 3-point range. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, converted 50.0 percent of its chances, including a 67.9 percent mark in the second half and 80.0 percent clip in overtime.

Mizzou remains on the road as it faces Oklahoma on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
