
Tennis Ends The Weekend Trip With Two Wins in Douleheader

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Missouri tennis defeated Colorado State, 4-0, and St. Thomas, 7-0, in a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 9. The Tigers continue their season 5-1 while the Rams fall to 1-3 and the Tommies drop to 1-2 in 2025.
Match One: Colorado State
The Tigers started strong, winning the doubles point by default with senior Inah Canete and freshman Korina Roso winning 6-0 on court one. Senior Mary Brumfield and junior Andrea Artimedi lost 6-4 on court two.
Freshman Gian Octa showed out, winning her singles match 6-4, 6-0 on court five along with freshman Zoe Lazar who clinched the team win on court four 6-1, 6-4, due to another default by the Rams on court six. With three unfinished matches, the Tigers were still up in two with Artimedi leading her singles match 6-2, 6-5 on court three and Canete on court one leading 6-2, 4-1.
Match Two: St. Thomas
To continue their winning ways today, the Tigers swept the Tommies by first claiming the doubles point. Finishing first was Canete and Roso who won their match on court one, 6-2. Following along were freshman Zoe Lazar and graduate student Lailaa Bashir who won their match 6-4 on court two.
During singles, Missouri won every match with Lazar finishing first on court three, 6-0, 6-3. Finishing second was Artimedi on court four, winning her sets 6-1, 6-3. Octa on court five, 7-5, 6-2, won both sets and freshman Sarah Hartel made her collegiate debut on court six, winning 7-5, 6-2. Finishing next was Canete on court one, 6-2, 7-6 and Bashir on court two, 7-6, 5-3.

"I'm pleased about both performances today. We didn't drop any singles matches. The team showed great energy and played aggressive tennis at a good level. It's a great way to bounce back after a close, hard-fought match against Minnesota on Friday. The team is making very good progress and is showing a great competitive spirit on the court."

The Tigers will return home and welcome Missouri State and SEMO for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb.15 at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
