Tennis Claims Two Wins in Saturday Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri tennis had another successful weekend, defeating Missouri State 4-0 and Southeast Missouri 4-0 on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Tigers moved to 7-1 while MSU fell to 1-7 and SEMO 5-7.
Match One: Missouri State
The Tigers started hot in match one, winning the doubles point with senior Mary Brumfield and junior Andrea Artimedi on court three, 6-1. Clinching the doubles point was graduate student Lailaa Bashir and freshman Zoe Lazar on court two, 6-4.
Winning three of their singles matches, the Tigers were able to get the overall win against the Bears, 4-0. The seniors showed up in this match, winning both sets of their matches. Inah Canete finished first on court two, 6-2 6-0, then Mary Brumfield won 6-3 6-1 on court one. To clinch the match win was Lazar on court four, 6-1 6-4.
Match Two: SEMO
Missouri started match two by winning the doubles point. The first match was won by freshman Korina Roso and Canete on court one, 6-0. To clinch the doubles point was Bashir with Lazar on court two, 6-4.
Finishing the day with singles, freshman Gian Octa took the first win on court four, 6-1, 6-1. Bashir on court two followed, winning both sets 6-1, 6-3. Roso clinched the match on court six with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win.

"It was another good day for us with two wins, and we didn't drop a point in doubles or singles. We are growing in confidence as a group and that is essential as we get into conference play next Sunday. We had a good showing today. Now we must keep working at practice every day on our aggressive game and mental toughness."
UP NEXT
The Tigers will continue at home welcoming Lindenwood and Western Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT, respectively. Missouri will start Southeastern Conference play against #21 Vanderbilt on Sunday, Feb. 23 at noon CT.
