Women's Basketball Defeats SIUE, Earns Fifth Straight Win

Mizzou women's basketball defeated SIUE 65-56 to earn its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma led in the scoring column with 17 points and added five rebounds.
Junior guards Grace Slaughter and Shannon Dowell both added 11 points to the final tally.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke notched 10 points with a 50% performance from behind the arc (2-of-4).
Bolstered by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Chloe Sotell, Mizzou jumped out to a four-point advantage in the opening three minutes.
The Tigers trailed by nine just over the halfway mark of the frame before a jumper from junior guard Lisa Thompson and a layup from Reisma cut the Tigers' deficit to five.
A triple with under a minute remaining saw SIUE with a 24-16 lead after one.
A strong defensive second quarter by the Tigers was marked by three steals, two of which came from Sotell. Slaughter entered the scoring column with a layup off a turnover to close out the second period.
Mizzou ended the half on a 6-0 run and held SIUE scoreless for over four minutes of action to cut the deficit nine points as the Tigers headed to the locker room trailing 24-33.
The Tigers began the second half with a 3-pointer from Schreacke. A jumper by Slaughter ended an 8-1 run for the Tigers, which cut the deficit to two near the end of the third quarter.
Mizzou ignited a 13-4 run in the back half of the frame. Slaughter scored seven in the charge, including an and-one layup in the final minute that knotted the contest at 42-42 headed into the final frame.
The teams traded baskets early in the fourth before Dowell buried a triple with over seven minutes remaining. The 3-pointer sparked a final 19-9 scoring push for the Tigers that gave them control of the contest.
Mizzou pulled away with a pair of layups and a triple by Sotell down the stretch.
The Tigers' defense held the Cougars to just 23 points in the second half.
Mizzou finished the contest with a 16-of-16 performance at the line and recorded nine steals, which matched a season high.

Mizzou will stay home to face Illinois at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mizzou Arena. The contest will be broadcast on SEC Network.
