Mizzou women's basketball fell to Troy 100-82 on Thursday morning at Mizzou Arena. Over 3,000 were in attendance for the team's game, which served as Columbia Public School's field trip day.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell led Mizzou with 25 points, five rebounds and five assists. Dowell scored 20 of her 25 in the first half, becoming the first Mizzou player to score 20 or more in one half since Sophie Cunningham totaled 21 against Auburn on Jan. 27, 2019.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter tallied 21 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Chloe Sotell added 11 points, while knocking down 3-of-4 from three and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
Mizzou jumped out to an early three point lead as Slaughter converted an and-1 and junior guard Lisa Thompson connected on a triple on the Tigers' opening two possessions.
The Trojans battled back and exchanged scores, with neither side gaining more than a one possession lead until Dowell knocked down a 3-pointer to give Mizzou a five point advantage with just over a minute remaining.
Troy mounted a response and led 31-30 at the end of the frame.
Mizzou converted 5-of-6 attempts from long range in the first period.
The two teams continued to trade blows throughout the second quarter. Sotell jumped a passing lane that set up Slaughter for an early fast break layup. The Tigers knocked down two pairs of free throws on the following two possessions to take the 38-37 advantage as the quarter hit its stride.
The squads traded the lead eight times during the first half as the Trojans led 61-54 at the break.
Troy stretched its lead to 12 early in the third frame before Slaughter knocked down her first three of the day to cut the lead to nine.
The Trojans extended their lead throughout the third and were able to gain control of the contest.
Mizzou battled back and outscored Troy in the fourth, but it was not enough as the visitors held on for the victory.
The Tigers shot 100% from the free throw line (21-of-21), marking the second time ever that the Tigers have gone perfect from the line with 20+ attempts (January 28, 2004 against Oklahoma).
