
No. 16 Wrestling Places Eighth at National Duals Invitational Sponsored by Paycom

TULSA, Okla. - No. 16-ranked Mizzou wrestling finished day two of the National Duals Invitational sponsored by Paycom. Across the full tournament, the Tigers earned an eighth-place finish, going 2-3 in duals.
Day two included duals against No. 9 Minnesota and No. 15 Illinois. Mizzou battled through both matches but fell 15-14 to the Golden Gophers and 26-18 to the Fighting Illini. The highlight of the day came in the dual against Minnesota, where redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair knocked off No. 1 Max McEnelly at 184 pounds.
MATCH ONE NOTES
- Missouri's all-time record against Minnesota falls to 2-10, with the series dating back to a meeting in the 1966-67 season.
- Entering their consolation dual, eight of Missouri's ten dual starters had previously faced off with wrestlers representing Minnesota. The only starters wrestling Minnesota for the first time were freshmen Mack Mauger (125) and Seth Mendoza (157).
- At 165 pounds, Joel Mylin faced off with eleventh-ranked Andrew Sparks of Minnesota. Sparks is the first-ranked foe of Mylin's season after he faced ten last season.
- The 174-pound bout between Cam Steed and Clayton Whiting served as a matchup of former teammates.
- The dual's marquee matchup came at 184 pounds, where No. 8 Aeoden Sinclair knocked off No. 1 Max McEnelly. The match was the duo's first meeting collegiately, but McEnelly held a 3-1 record against Sinclair in the freestyle circuit.
MATCH TWO NOTES
- Missouri's all-time record against the Fighting Illini falls to 16-21, and 6-7 under Head Coach Brian Smith. Mizzou's last win over Illinois was a 29-6 victory on December 21, 2023.
- These teams will match up a second time this season, on Monday, November 24, 2025. That meeting will take place in Columbia, Missouri.
- Redshirt junior Easton Hilton made his dual debut for the Tigers at 149 pounds, losing a tight tiebreaker match to Will Baysingar of Illinois.
- At 157 pounds, freshman Mendoza wrestled his fifth-ranked opponent of the weekend, picking up two solid wins.
UP NEXT
Missouri returns home to take on No. 15 Illinois at Hearnes Center on Monday, Nov. 24. Action is set to start at 6:30 p.m., and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
