Women's Basketball Comes up Short in Preseason Exhibition

Mizzou women's basketball fell short to Maryville in overtime 90-84 in a preseason exhibition game on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led the scoring column for the Tigers with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma recorded 21 points, while adding 11 rebounds and five blocks.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell contributed 19 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.
The Tigers opened the contest with high intensity offensively, creating an early 16-0 run. In her first appearance in a Mizzou uniform, Dowell was a presence on both ends of the court, contributing seven points and five rebounds in the first quarter.
The Tigers' defense held Maryville without a field goal for the first five minutes of the game.
Slaughter completed a 3-point play to close out the quarter and give Missouri a 19-8 lead.
Mizzou held its lead in the second quarter as Sotell converted back-to-back jumpers midway through the frame. As the break neared, Reisma recorded a block, layup, and defensive rebound to conclude the period.
Despite Maryville's attempts to close the gap, Mizzou maintained an advantage and led 29-25 at the half.
Reisma led the Tigers in the third quarter, scoring 10 of her 21 points, including the first eight points of the frame for Mizzou. Despite the effort, Maryville took a five-point lead into the fourth.
The two teams exchanged buckets throughout the entirety of the final quarter. The Tigers remained in the contest with Slaughter grabbing a layup and a steal in the first minute of the final quarter.
A fast-break layup from Smith marked a 62-62 tie before Kroenke gave the Tigers' the lead with just under four minutes left to play. Slaughter led Mizzou in the final minutes, knocking down 10 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter.
With under a minute remaining, Smith knocked down a jumper in the paint to tie the game 76-76. Smith recorded six of her eight points in the final frame.
After an exchange of points in the last seconds, the score was even at 78-78 at the end of regulation.
Throughout overtime, the lead continued to go back and forth with Smith and Sotell connecting on back-to-back possessions. Maryville took the lead in the final minutes to earn the win.

Mizzou will open the 2025-26 season against Central Arkansas at the Mizzou Arena at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The game will be broadcast on SECN+ and Tiger Radio Network.
