Women in Third, Men in Sixth After SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Day One

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Missouri track and field's women's team stands in third with 11 points while the men's team ranks sixth with six points following day one of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Missouri track and field's women's team stands in third with 11 points while the men's team ranks sixth with six points following day one of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

The day was headlined by Valentina Barrioswho earned a silver medal and set a new school record in women's javelin with a throw of 58.20m (190-11), earning the squad its first eight points of the meet. Monica Wanjiku contributed the women's team's additional three points after taking sixth in the 10,000m in 34:29.76.

On the men's side, Callan Saldutto notched fifth with a result of 71.35m (234-1) in javelin to receive four points, while Sam Innes claimed seventh to garner two points with a hammer throw result of 67.15m (220-3).

Multiple Tigers earned personal bests throughout the day. Brooke Sawatzky opened the meet with a pair of personal bests in her first two events of the heptathlon, finishing the 100m hurdles in 15.03 and clearing 1.50m (4-11) in high jump. In women's javelin, Morgan Cannon's 10th-place result saw her record 48.33m (158-6), earning a personal record. Charlotte Cullen rounded out Mizzou's individual records on the first day of the conference championship meet, finishing the 800m prelim in 2:12.36.
