COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri wrestling heads to Hartland, Wisconsin, to take on No.14 Northern Iowa in a wrestling dual on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The two teams will compete at Arrowhead High School, alma mater of senior Keegan O'Toole. The action will start at 7 p.m. CT. Fans can stream the event through UFC Fight Pass.
LAST TIME OUT
- Last Thursday, Mizzou fell to rival No. 16 Illinois with a 23-14 final, bringing the Tigers record to 1-2 to start the season.
- Two true freshmen earned wins in the match. Gage Walker earned his first collegiate dual victory at 125 pounds, a 13-1 major decision, while Aeoden Sinclair earned his first win over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 10 Zac Braunagel 16-10.
- Keegan O'Toole defeated another ranked opponent, winning his 174-pound bout by major decision, 16-7.
O'TOOLE'S RETURN
- Senior Keegan O'Toole returns home to Arrowhead High School where he won four Wisconsin State Titles, becoming just the eighth wrestler from the state to do so.
- O'Toole was a perfect 49-0 his senior year, winning the Junior Dan Hodge trophy and represented Wisconsin as a Dave Schultz High School Excellence award winner.
- The senior returns home with a 7-0 record and 100-percent bonus rate in his final collegiate campaign.
EARLY EXPOSURE
- Missouri has seen three true freshmen early in their first career starts this season: Logan Cole, Aeoden Sinclair, and Gage Walker.
- Cole debuted against Illinois on Nov. 21, taking on No. 9 Edmond Ruth and losing by 10-3 decision.
- Starting the season for the Tigers at 197 pounds, Sinclair is 2-1 and coming off an upset win (16-10) of Illinois' No. 10-ranked Zac Braunagel.
- Earning his first dual-match win, Walker grabbed a 13-1 major against Illinois and is 4-3 this season.
CLIMBING THE RANKS
- The Black and Gold have nine of 10 starters ranked by InterMat, while eight are in the top 10 by FloWrestling.
- Keegan O'Toole comes in at No. 2 on FloWrestling's pound-for-pound list.
- Furthermore, the team sits at No. 9 in the NWCA Poll and is ranked as high as No. 6 by FloWrestling.
LAST TIME AGAINST NORTHERN IOWA
- In their last meeting, The Tigers dropped a road match to Northern Iowa, 31-6, on Friday, Feb. 23.
- The match saw a limited lineup for Mizzou, missing seven starters due to injury or illness.
- Redshirt sophomores Jeremy Jakowitsch and Ellis Pfleger made their Mizzou dual debuts, wrestling at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively.
- No. 22 Josh Edmond earned the upset win over Cael Happel at 141 pounds, while Zach Elam tallied his team-leading 21st win of the season over Tyrell Gordon.
ALL-TIME VS. THE PANTHERS
- This match marks the 38th meeting between MU and UNI, with the Panthers holding the tight lead at 21-17 in all-time matches.
- The first meeting between the two programs occurred in the 1933-34 season, with Mizzou not earning its first win over Northern Iowa until 1984-85
- Additionally, since Brian Smith took over in 1998, the Tigers have been 12-7 against the Panthers.
TRAVELIN' MEN
- The Tigers begin the 2024-25 away from home for the entire first semester, not wrestling in Columbia until Jan. 3 against Cornell.
- After returning home, Mizzou will host five home matches in January before hitting the road again to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
- The last time the Black and Gold were not home until January (not including the shortened 2020-21 season) was 1998-99, head coach Brian Smith's first season at the helm.
HOLY HAWKS
- Redshirt junior Colton Hawks earned his first Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor, voted by the league coaches, on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
- No. 12 Hawks secured the accolade by defeating No. 5 TJ Stewart Jr. of Virginia Tech, 8-2, on Nov. 15.
- The Wentzville, Missouri native remains 5-0 this year with two major decisions and a fall.
- This marks the first wrestler to win the award since Keegan O'Toole on Dec. 27, 2023.
