No. 8 Wrestling Travels To No. 7 Virginia Tech For Friday Matchup

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri wrestling heads to No. 7 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday, Nov. 15. The dual will take place inside Cassell Coliseum starting at 6 p.m. CT and can be streamed on ACCNX. 

LAST TIME OUT 

  • The Tigers enter the weekend with a first-place finish at the Tiger Style Invite (168.5 points) on Nov. 9 and a 25-14 win at Northern Colorado on Nov. 2. 
  • Mizzou's 168.5 team points was 25 points higher than the number two team, Purdue, at the invite. 
  • Mizzou earned four individual weight titles at the Tiger Style Invite: Josh Edmond (141), Cam Steed (165), Keegan O'Toole (174) and Colton Hawks (184). 

TIGER STYLE INVITE TITLEHOLDERS 

  • Taking the top spot at 141 pounds, Josh Edmond went 3-0, including a technical fall, decision and sudden victory win over Greyson Clark of Purdue in the final. 
  • Cam Steed continues to dazzle at 165 pounds, earning a tech fall, major deicion and pin on his way to the top of the podium. 
  • The tech fall king, Keegan O'Toole, used a fall and three techs to claim first at 174 pounds and earn his third Tiger Style Invite title. 
  • Colton Hawks went 3-0 against all Little Rock opponents on his way to first place at 184 pounds. Hawks had a fall, major decision and decision on the day. 

IN THEIR BONUS BAG 

  • The Tigers have two wrestlers in Keegan O'Toole and Cam Steed who have started the year with a 100 percent bonus rate. 
  • O'Toole is 5-0 with four technical falls and a pin, while Steed is 4-0 with two falls under one minute, a tech and a major decision. 

CLIMBING THE RANKS 

  • The Tigers begin the season with all 10 wrestlers ranked by InterMat, while eight starters were picked in the top 24 by FloWrestling. 
  • Keegan O'Toole comes in at No. 2 on FloWrestling's pound-for-pound list. 
  • Furthermore, the team sits at No. 8 in the NWCA Poll. 

LAST TIME AGAINST THE HOKIES 

  • Missouri broke a three-match losing streak to Virginia Tech on Jan. 2, 2024, defeating the Hokies 22-17 inside Hearnes Center. 
  • The win marked the Tigers' biggest comeback victory since recovering from a 12-3 hole against No. 14 Arizona State on Feb. 12, 2022. 
  • Trailing 17-11 heading into the final three bouts, Missouri closed with two major decisions and an 8-1 decision at heavyweight to seal the dual. 
  • Unranked at the time, Kade Moore upset No. 5 Sam Latona at 133 with a second-period pin. 

ALL-TIME VS. VIRGINIA TECH 

  • In the ninth meeting between the two programs, Missouri holds the series lead with a 5-3 record against Virginia Tech. 
  • Prior to the Tigers winning the matchup last season, the Hokies had won the previous three meetings.

  • The Tigers stay on the road, traveling to No. 16 Illinois on Thursday, Nov. 21. The match will take place inside Huff Hall in Champaign, Illinois at 7 p.m. CT.
