Offenheiser's Shot Put Victory Highlights Second Day Of Vanderbilt Invitational

The University of Missouri track and field team closed out its 2024 season opener at the second day of the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Missouri track and field team closed out its 2024 season opener at the second day of the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee. Five Tigers earned a top-five finish in their respective events, including eight competitors setting personal-bests.

Graduate student Emily Offenheiser achieved the best result of the day by winning the women's shot put with a throw of 15.77m. Offenheiser's throw was also good for a new personal-best.

Senior Alicia Burnett placed third in the women's 60m by racing to a personal-best of 7.40 seconds. The St. Louis native's run also marks third best all-time at 60m in Mizzou history.

In the men's triple jump, freshman Sterling Scott posted a 15.17m jump finishing in fourth. Scott set a new personal-best, and registered the 10th best jump on the all-time indoor list.

The women's 3000m group compiled a successful showing, with junior McKenna Revord leading the way posting a 9:37.13 to place fifth while graduate student Mikayla Reed finished in eighth coming in at 9:38.91. Additionally, graduate student Jenna Schwartz completed the race in 9:39.24. All three times set new personal-bests.

Sophomore Declan Tunney led the way for the men's 3000m, posting a 8:11.56 which was good for a new personal-best, and a seventh place finish. Graduate student Eddie Zuercher also notched a new personal-best of 8:23.60.

Other top finishes for the day included freshman Jack Forer placing seventh in the mile with a time of 4:06.81. The men's shot put invite also saw two Tigers finish inside the top eight, junior Rece Rowan placed sixth with a 16.94m throw and classmate Skyler Coffey finished seventh by tossing 16.54m.

The Tigers will travel to Manhattan, Kan. for the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on Feb. 2-3.
