JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Missouri Tigers (5-6) continue their tour down the East Coast with a pair of matches hosted by the University of North Florida. Mizzou will face Florida Atlantic University (3-6) on Sunday, Feb. 27, and North Florida (4-5) on Monday, Feb. 28.
Three Matches in Three Days
The Tigers head into the new week recovering from three matches the week before. On Wednesday, Missouri played its first double-header against Liberty and JMU. Mizzou came out swinging against Liberty, quickly grabbing the doubles point and two singles wins. However, Liberty staged a late comeback that could not be prevented, and the Tigers lost, 3-4.
One hour later Mizzou was back on the courts playing JMU. Mizzou once again sealed the doubles point and played with more aggression during singles. The team was victorious, beating JMU 4-3. After a day's break the Tigers were slated to play No. 22 Old Dominion on Friday. ODU grabbed an early lead that Mizzou couldn't catch up with. The team was on the verge of a late match comeback when Old Dominion clinched and play was halted.
The Florida Schools
Florida Atlantic (FAU) is 3-6 with wins against Middle Tennessee, Georgia State and FGCU. The Owls have lost their past two matches against Wichita State and Kansas State. North Florida sits at 4-5 this season. The Ospreys have played three ranked teams thus far, stealing one point against No. 13 Florida. The team has one singles player in the ITA Rankings, No. 66 Kit Gulihur. Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo are slated No. 13 in the ITA Doubles Rankings.
The Tigers are set to face FAU at 2 p.m. CST on Sunday, and North Florida at 11 a.m. CST on Monday. Live stats will be available via the website and updates will be posted on Twitter (@MizzouTennis).
