
Tennis to Face No. 22 Old Dominion in Third Match this Week

NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Missouri (5-5) is slated to face No. 22 Old Dominion (5-5) in the team's third matchup this week. The Tigers look to maintain a winning record heading towards the midpoint of the season.
Wednesday's Double-Header
The Tigers have just one day's rest after competing in back-to-back matches on Wednesday. The first competition against Liberty University showcased the team's strength in doubles play. Gabriela Martinez and Bronte Murgett won their first match against Tiffany Nguyen and Maretha Burger, 6-3. Emelie Schwarte and Elys Ventura secured the doubles point after beating Micaela Ode Mitre and Maria Juliana Parra Romero, 6-3. In the second match against James Madison University, a different combination of doubles duos triumphed. Ellie Wright and Gabriela Martinez won their first doubles match against Hope Moulin and Kylie Moulin, 6-1. Valentina Vazquez and Elys Ventura clinched the doubles point with a win against Natalia Nikolopoulou and Amanda Nord, 6-2. Mizzou took five singles points across the two matches and pulled away with a 4-3 win over JMU.
Rating Old Dominion
Old Dominion entered the ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll on Feb. 2 at the No. 17 spot. The team is now ranked No. 22 in the most recent ITA National Rankings, which go to 75 spots rather than 25. Old Dominion has faced five ranked teams during the course of the spring season, and defeated then No. 12 (now No. 47) Georgia Tech, 4-3. The Monarchs lost narrowly to the remainder of their ranked opponents, which included No. 13 Florida, No. 23 Miami, No. 5 Pepperdine and No. 8 Texas A&M.
ODU has two singles players in the ITA Rankings. Yulia Starodubtseva sits at No. 37, Alexandra Viktorovich at No. 80 and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya at No. 125. In doubles rankings, Sasnouskaya/Starodubtseva reached No. 5 in the nation.
