Columbia, MO. – Univeristy of Missouri Women's Basketball head coach Robin Pingeton announced the addition of Skylar Jones who signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday and will continue her academic and athletic career at Mizzou. Jones, who is from Chicago, IL, is a 4-star recruit and is ranked 96th overall by ESPNW.
"Skylar's dynamic skill set, work ethic, and maturity makes her such an exciting addition to our family," said Pingeton. "She will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our locker room and bring a maturity and genuine energy to our team, but she will also add a unique skill set to our roster. Her athleticism, explosiveness, and ability to defend are SEC-caliber in every sense. That, combined with her high motor and ability to play multiple positions, will give her a chance to make an immediate impact on the court. We are so impressed with Skylar as both a player and person, and we know that our Mizzou family will be as well."
Jones, a 6-0 guard at Whitney Young High School, averaged 16.9 points and 4.9 rebounds to lead her team to a 27-6 record during her junior season. Her breakout year earned the Dolphins a Public League title and a trip to the Class 4A Elite Eight. Jones was named 4A IBCA First-Team All-State and Associated Press Second Team All-State. She has scored an impressive 900+ career points in only two seasons as her entire sophomore year of stats were forfeited due to the pandemic. She ultimately chose Mizzou over Illinois, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Mississippi State. Beyond the court, Skylar has also exceled in the classroom, earning a 4.1 GPA.
"The reason I chose Mizzou is because as soon as I stepped on campus, it felt like home and as soon as I left campus, I was eager to come back," said Jones. "As a player, I want to be coached by Coach Pingeton, Coach Putnam, Coach Bracey, and Coach JJ because I believe they can push me in many ways not just as a basketball player but as a person as well."

- Quote from Skylar's parents: "The Jones family is excited about Skylar's future at Mizzou! She made the tough decision to choose Mizzou because she believed in the coaching staff and that she would receive a well-rounded education first and foremost. We believe that Mizzou will allow her to balance academics and athletics obligations. The sky is the limit, and we can't wait to see her flourish at Mizzou."
- AAU Team: Mac Irvin Fire
- High School Coach: Krissy Harper
- Quote from Coach Harper: "Skylar's evolution over the past three years has been nothing but a dream to be a part of. She has become the player we used to sit around and talk about her freshman year, watching as others were showered with awards. Three years later, she is the one stepping into that light. I am beyond proud to have been a part of her journey and the most wonderful part is…this is only her beginning."
