COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 3-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team opened its season with a dominant victory over Lindenwood, 55-0. This was Mizzou's second Dual on the Diamond event, first since 2017.
The Tigers (1-0) took all 10 bouts for the first time since Jan. 23, 2021. Redshirt sophomore Noah Surtin (125 pounds) and redshirt senior Connor Brown (133 pounds) started the day strong with pins in 2:16 and 4:37, respectively. Redshirt senior Allan Hart (141 pounds) took the victory via technical fall 26-10, followed by redshirt junior Brock Mauller (149 pounds) getting the Tiger's third pin of the afternoon in 4:14. Senior Jarrett Jacques' 16-1 technical fall in the 157-pound bout took the Tigers into intermission leading, 28-0.
Following the intermission, sophomore Keegan O'Toole returned to the mat for the first time since winning the national championship and scored a 16-5 major decision in his 165-pound match. Redshirt junior Peyton Mocco earned a pin in his 174-pound match followed by an 18-2 technical fall from redshirt sophomore Sean Harman. In redshirt freshman Jesse Cassatt's first match as an attached competitor for the Tigers, he netted a fall in his 197-pound contest.
In the final match of the afternoon, redshirt junior Zach Elam set a school record for the fastest fall, with a nine-second pin in his 285-pound bout. Elam broke Rick Romeo's previous record of 13 seconds, set in the 1982 season.
