
Three Tigers Claim First as Wrestling Gains Experience at the Lindenwood Open

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Missouri wrestling team saw three wrestlers take home individual titles at the Lindenwood Open Saturday, Nov. 19. Additionally, 17 wrestlers placed within their respective brackets.
Sophomore Logan Gioffre earned first at 157 pounds, going 5-0 on the day, three of which were major decisions. Freshman Clayton Whiting claim first at 184 pounds as Mizzou took first and second in the weight class. Whiting narrowly defeated teammate Colton Hawks in extra time, 3-1. At 285 the Tigers dominated, taking first, second and fourth. Redshirt sophomore Seth Nitzel won a close decision over redshirt freshman Steven Kolcheff, 2-1, in the final. Meanwhile, freshman Ryan Boersma was fourth with a 4-2 record in the open.
Seven true freshmen gained their first collegiate experience at the open including Boersma, Jerrdon Fisher, Easton Hilton, Kade Moore, Rafael Romero, Cameron Steed and Owen Uhls. K. Moore had a solid day, going 4-1 and placing third at 141 pounds. Hilton claimed a fourth-place finish, and Romero earned fifth, both in the Black Division (Fresh/Soph), at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.

Mizzou takes time off before returning to the mat at home against West Virginia Friday, Dec. 2. The dual is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. CT inside the Hearnes Center.
