Tennis Finishes Off Day One At ITA Central Regional Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – University of Missouri tennis saw Romary Cardenas Rifka and Koral Koldobski advance out of singles qualifying on the opening day of the ITA Central Regional Championships Thursday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
Eight Tigers will compete in singles on Friday after Cardenas and Koldobski advanced into the main draw while one doubles team will be in action in the main draw and three in the consolation bracket.
Cardenas beat Kansas City's Catherine Chrobak 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in her opening match and Sarah Millard from Arkansas State by a 6-2, 6-3 margin in her second.
Koldobski advances courtesy of a 6-4, 6-4 win over South Dakota's Maya Arksey and a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over North Dakota's Julie Schulte.
In doubles, Mae Canete and Inah Canete advanced to Friday morning's round of 32 with and 8-2 win over Oriana Parkins Goodwin and Elizabete Klavinska from Drake.
Laura Masic and Andrea Artimedi fell in a tiebreaker, 7-4, and 8-7 overall to Vipasha Mehra and Daianne Hayashida from Iowa while Koldboski and Cardenas dropped an 8-4 decision to Kelly Keller and Indianna Spink from Arkansas.
The Tigers area among 22 other schools with nearly 150 student-athletes competing in Stillwater this weekend. Regional singles and doubles champions qualify for the ITA Fall National Championships held in San Diego, California, Nov. 2-6. Play will begin each day at 9:30 a.m. CT and Oklahoma State has set a tournament page online for draws and schedules.
