COLUMBIA, Mo. — Following three weeks away from Mizzou Arena, the University of Missouri men's basketball team returns home to host No. 15/20 Alabama in its SEC home opener, Saturday, Jan. 8. The game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. tip off on SEC Network with Roy Philpott and Mark Wise on the call.
Mike Kelly and Chris Gervino will have the radio call for Tiger Radio Network. Due to local affiliates conflicts, Mizzou fans in central Missouri can listen to the game exclusively on 100.5, 105.1 and 1580 KTRG. The game will also be available on the Varsity App and Facebook Live.
MIZZOU HEADLINES
- The Tigers return to action Saturday after Wednesday's game against Mississippi State was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.
- Saturday's game will mark the fourth time in the last five games Missouri has faced a team in the top-20 NET rankings.
- Mizzou's strength of schedule ranks 18th in the nation heading into Saturday's game according to ESPN's Basketball Power Index (BPI).
- The emergence of Trevon Brazile has helped Mizzou record multiple blocks in five-straight games. Brazile has led the Tigers in blocks in each game he has played, totaling 13 blocks in five games.
- Brazile's 13 blocks rank 18th nationally among freshman.
- Kobe Brown continues to rate among the top of the SEC as his rebounds per game (8.5) and field goal percentage (50.8) both rank third in the league. He is also 12th with 14.2 points per game.
- The junior is approaching 400 career rebounds, currently sitting at 384.
- As a team, Mizzou's rebounding ability has been key to its success. The Tigers rank 31st nationally in offensive rebounds per game and are 6-1 this season when outrebounding their opponent.
THE SERIES
- Alabama leads the all-time series 11-6, however, Mizzou has won the last two meetings between the programs, both of which took place in Mizzou Arena.
- The Tigers took down Alabama, 68-65, last season marking their first back-to-back wins against the Tide since 2013-14.
- The margin in last year's meeting, three points, was tied for the closest in the all-time series.
SCOUTING ALABAMA
- Alabama opened up SEC play with a 2-0 record, defeating #14 Tennessee and Florida.
- The Crimson Tide has beaten all three top-25 teams they have played, with their losses coming to Iona, Memphis and Davidson.
- Alabama ranks 12th in the nation and leads the SEC with 416 3-point field goal attempts on the season, averaging more than 30 per game. The team is shooting at a 32.5 percent clip and leads the conference in three-pointers per game, with 9.6.
- Alabama also leads the SEC in scoring offense, averaging 82.2 points per game, while ranking 13th in scoring defense, giving up 72.7.
- Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly average 16.3 and 15.2 points per game, respectively, making them the top scoring duo in the SEC.
