Two Tigers Set for U20 World Championships

Ames Burton and incoming transfer Valentina Barrios Bornacelli will compete in the discus and javelin, respectively.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Track and Field redshirt-freshman Ames Burton and incoming transfer Valentina Barrios Bornacelli will compete in the U20 World Championships in Cali, Columbia from August 1-6.

Burton will represent the United States in the discus where she currently ranks seventh on the world leaderboard. Burton qualified last month with a toss of 54.08 / 177-5 at the USA Track and Field U20 Championships. The Manhattan, Kan. native, redshirted her freshman year in 2022 and has four seasons of eligibility remaining with the Tigers.

Bornacelli, a Barranquilla, Columbia native will represent the host country in the javelin. She joined Missouri this offseason after the first year of her collegiate career at Washington State.

Bornacelli earned First-Team All-American honors after finishing eighth overall in the javelin with a personal best mark of 54.03 / 177-3. The throw advanced her to the finals of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships in June.
