Big Third Inning Leads Ole Miss Past No. 21/19 Tigers

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 21/19 University of Missouri softball could not overcome Ole Miss' five-run third inning, falling 5-1 in the series opener.

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 21/19 University of Missouri softball could not overcome Ole Miss' five-run third inning, falling 5-1 in the series opener.

After a scoreless first and second, the Rebels jumped out in front in the bottom of the third. Paige Smith crushed a three-run home run to left with one out in the inning to give Ole Miss the lead. The Rebels started a second rally in the inning with a hit batter and a single. After the runners moved over to second and third on a wild pitch, Allee laced a double into right center to make it 5-0. 

Jenna Laird led off the top of the fourth with a double off the left field wall. Kendyll Bailey's two-out single brought in Laird to make it 5-1. Emma Raabe lined out to short to end the inning. 

Megan Schumacher entered for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth and put up three scoreless frames. She finished with one walk and three strikeouts over her three innings.

Mizzou could not muster a comeback in the opening game of the series.

NOTES
Jenna Laird went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. She has hit safely in seven-straight games.

Kendyll Bailey went 1-for-3 with an RBI single. Bailey has driven in four runs over the last four games.

Maddie Snider made her first career start in left field. 

Megan Schumacher struck out three over three innings without allowing a hit.
