COLUMBIA, Mo. — Freshmen Rocky Elam, Colton Hawks and Keegan O'Toole will wrestle for a world championship with Team USA in Ufa, Russia, at the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships from August 17-18.
The three Mizzou athletes are amongst the 10-man team comprised of the best wrestlers under 20 across the country. To qualify, they each had to win the UWW national title in their respective weight classes.
Elam, who will wrestle at 92 kg, will be the second in his family to don the red, white and blue singlet. He joins his brother, Mizzou wrestler Zach Elam, who wrestled in the event in 2018 and took home a silver medal.
Hawks, who will wrestle at 86 kg, will take on international competition for the first time, while O'Toole (74 kg) will finally get his chance to represent Team USA. O'Toole would have been a member of the team in 2020, but there was no international competition due to the pandemic.
