COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track & Field athletes Georgi Nachev and Martin Prodanov represented Bulgaria at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, competing in the men's triple jump and men's 1500m run, respectively.
Prodanov finished 10th in his heat with a 3:48.36 mark. Nachev qualified for the final with a fourth-place preliminary distance of 16.06m (52-8.50). In the final, he placed 10th after jumping 15.60m (51-2.25).
Hear from event coaches Marc Burns and Ilyian Chamov:
On Nachev: "Making the Bulgarian team and competing at the European U23 Championships was the cherry on the cake for [Nachev]," Chamov said. "Bulgaria is one of the most difficult teams to make in the triple jump and being selected to represent the country is a huge honor. This competition was great experience that he will continue to build on for the rest of his career."
On Prodanov: "Great to see Martin continue on this summer and compete for his home country of Bulgaria!" Burns said. "Great things are coming for him in the future both as a Tiger and internationally!"
