
Mizzou Track & Field Bags Three Event Wins on Day One of Kansas Invitational

A group of distance runners also completed action at the West Coast Relays
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Mizzou Track & Field bagged three event wins and set 17 personal best marks on day one of the Kansas Invitational. Out West in Clovis, California, junior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) and redshirt senior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) both moved up in the program record book at the West Coast Relays.
Notable Finishes
Back after a weekend off, freshman Skylar Ciccolini (Lewsitown, Pa.) picked up right where she left off in the women's javelin. With her throw of 56.08m (184-0), Ciccolini again broke the school record for the second meet in a row. She still ranks fifth nationally in the event.
On the track, freshman Rondajai Washington (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) set a new personal best in a time of 24.05, now the eighth fastest mark in school history.
Freshman Ayele Gerken (Doerentrup, Germany) took flight in the women's long jump, landing in first place with a new personal best mark of 6.47m (21-2.75), which currently ranks 14th in the nation.
In the men's long jump, redshirt junior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) captured first for a Mizzou sweep in the long jump events. Ward led the field with a mark of 7.93 (26-0.25).
Redshirt senior Nathan Hall (Springfield, Mo.) set a new personal best in the men's 3000m steeplechase, beating his previous best by more than 10 seconds on his way to a second-place finish.
Nearly 2,000 miles away in Clovis, Chapman and George both notched personal bests in the 5000m races, moving up to third and eighth in school history, respectively. Chapman's time also ranks 20th nationally.

Mizzou kicks off day two of the Kansas Invitational tomorrow, May 1, beginning with the women's discus at 11 a.m. CT. A small group of distance runners will also be in action at the Trial of Miles Kansas City Qualifier, beginning with the men's 1500m at 7:56 p.m. CT.
