18 Tigers set new personal bests
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track and Field finished the first day of competition at the Tom Botts Invitational on Friday night, notching four event wins on the day, as two athletes set program top-10 marks and 18 others set new personal bests. Due to forecasted inclement weather, tomorrow's competition, besides the high jump and pole vault, has been canceled.
Notable Finishes
Starting off the day strong, redshirt senior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore Sydney Oberdiek (Platte City, Mo.) both notched top-10 finishes in the women's hammer throw. McClendon took third place with a throw of 65.38 (214-6), which currently ranks 13th in the nation. Oberdiek finished in seventh with a personal best throw of 58.27m (191-2). Her mark moves her up to seventh all-time in the hammer throw at Mizzou.
In the women's long jump, junior Arielle Mack (El Paso, Texas) won the event and matched her personal best with a jump of 5.94m (19-6). Junior Jason Edwards (Eldon, Mo.) won the men's javelin with a personal best throw of 60.89m (199-9).

On the track, junior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) placed second in her debut 1500m race, finishing in a time of 4:22.09, ranking eighth all-time at Mizzou. Redshirt junior Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) also returned to the track after more than a year off and didn't skip a beat. Menghini set a new personal best with a time of 4:25.77, good for fourth place.
In the men's 1500m race, Mizzou swept the top three spots. Freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhere, New Zealand) led the way, winning the event and setting a new personal best with a time of 3:46.12. Freshman Angus Beer (Rozelle, Australia) and redshirt sophomore Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.) finished just behind Sinclair in times of 3:46.80 and 3:48.25, respectively.
Quotables
Head Coach Brett Halter on the team's performance… "A terrific day for our teams. Unfortunately, only half our team will have had the opportunity to compete due to the cancellation of the remainder of the meet tomorrow but, those who lined up today got after it! Every opportunity to compete is a blessing and our teams are taking advantage of those opportunities. I lost count of the personal bests throughout the day!"
"Both teams are where we want to be for early April. Several more weeks of work ahead of us as we continue to prepare for the postseason."
Up Next
The Tigers will continue competition in the Tom Botts Invitational tomorrow. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, all outside events have been canceled. The high jump and pole vault have been moved into the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse, beginning at noon CT. Following the competition, Mizzou will honor its 17 seniors.
