Box Score 2 GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mizzou Baseball (11-23, 4-11 SEC) fell 8-6 and 6-4 to No. 18 Florida (25-11, 9-6 SEC) in a Saturday doubleheader at Florida Ballpark. The games were played in one day due to inclement weather in the Gainesville area on Sunday.
In game one of the twin billing, the Tigers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, utilizing a balk, a single, a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run from senior Mark Vierling. The blast was Vierling's second home run in his last five games.
Mizzou starter Spencer Miles went four innings of one-run ball prior to getting into a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fifth. After being lifted for senior Lukas Veinbergs, all three runs would score and be charged to Miles.
After Mizzou scored the tying run in the top of the sixth, Florida responded by putting up runs in the bottom of the frame and the eighth inning to cement the game.
In game two, the Tigers held the Gators to just two runs until the bottom of the seventh inning behind stellar pitching and timely defensive stops. A three-run seventh and a one run eighth brought the score to 6-2 headed into the ninth inning.
Mizzou put up a fight in the final frame, sending in two runs and bringing the go-ahead run up to the plate, but could not convert.
