Mizzou Drops Midweek Contest to Missouri State

Late rally falls short in 7-5 loss

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (11-20) fell 7-5 to Missouri State (12-10) on Tuesday night at Taylor Stadium.

The Bears jumped to a 4-0 lead with runs in each of the first three innings. Two fifth-inning tallies extended the advantage to 6-0 before the Tigers scratched a run across. Senior Brandt Belk doubled in the bottom half, his fourth two-bagger in the past two games, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Trailing 7-1, Mizzou mounted a rally in the eighth inning to score four times. Junior Tre Morris drove home a pair with his third hit of the night, a double to right center. Junior Joshua Day and sophomore Torin Montgomery followed with RBI-knocks to trim the deficit to 7-5.

After the eighth ended with a runner cut down at the plate, the Tigers were unable to finish the comeback effort.

HEAR FROM THE SKIPPER

Head coach Steve Bieser on midweek loss…

"We're trying to win a ball game and we need to do a little bit better there. We're still dealing with too many free passes – walks and hit batters – and when you put them on that way, they usually score. We just dug ourselves too big of a hole to get out of tonight."

#MIZ TAKEAWAYS

  • Morris' three-hit night was his first of the season and fourth multi-hit game this year.
  • Senior Jackson Lancaster made his season debut on the mound and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth with two strikeouts.
  • Fifth-year Andrew Keefer made his collegiate pitching debut in the ninth, also notching a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless frame.
  • Montgomery and Day each extended their hitting streaks to six games.
  • Montgomery produced his sixth multi-hit game of the season and fourth in the last five games.
