COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track and Field is set to send split squads to both the Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays on March 25-27 in Austin, Texas and Raleigh, N.C., respectively. The sprints and field squads will travel to Austin, while the distance squad will travel to Raleigh. The Texas Relays will be broadcast live on Longhorn Network.
The Tigers are back in action after a successful meet at the Mizzou Spring Opener. At the home meet, the Tigers amassed 12 event wins, set 13 personal records and notched three program top-10 marks.
Redshirt freshman Mitch Weber (Saint Clair, Minn.) highlighted the weekend with his performance in the men's discus. His mark of 60.99m (200-1) ranks No. 2 nationally and top among SEC competitors. Weber was named SEC Men's Newcomer of the Week following his performance.
The 93rd edition of the annual Texas Relays will kick off at 10:15 a.m. CT on Thursday morning with the women's hammer throw. Redshirt senior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.), who holds the second best mark in school history, will be in action in the event. Track events are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday with the preliminary race of the 400m dash. More track prelims and the javelin are set to follow on Thursday.
On Friday, Mizzou will begin the day at 9:30 a.m. with the "B" section of the women's shot put. In the men's long jump, Ja'Mari Ward, who holds the second best mark in program history, is set to begin his 2021 outdoor campaign. Ward last competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he placed fourth among the nation's best in the long jump, earning first team All-American honors. Weber will also be in action in the discus later in the day.
The Tigers will hit the track beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT on Friday, beginning with the men's 4x100m relay. Junior Nylo Clarke (Riverside, Mo.) will be in action on the event, while also competing in the 100m dash and 4x400m relay. Clarke currently holds the seventh-fastest outdoor 100m dash time in school history.
On Saturday, the Tigers will begin the final day of the meet at 10:00 a.m. CT with the women's discus. Mizzou's elite triple jump squad of Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.), Euphenie Andre (Dover Plains, N.Y.) and Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) will also compete later in the day. Track event finals are also scheduled for Saturday.
At the Raleigh Relays, Mizzou's distance squad will be in action. On Thursday, the men's 1500m and 5000m are scheduled. Senior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) is set to race in the women's 5000m on Friday. Chapman last competed at the NCAA Cross Championships, where she placed 47th out of nearly 250 runners.
On Saturday, senior Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.) will run in the men's 800m race. Conrad placed 15th in the nation at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships and is set to begin his outdoor season on the weekend.
Following both the Texas and Raleigh Relays, Mizzou will take a week off before hosting the annual Tom Botts Invitational on April 9-10, the Tiger's final home meet of the season.
