Columbia, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (7-10, 0-0 SEC) heads to Kentucky (11-3, 0-0 SEC) for the first SEC series of the season beginning Friday (March 19) at Kentucky Proud Park.
The first two games of the series will broadcast digitally on SEC Network +. Friday night's opener is set for a 5:30 p.m. CT start while game two on Saturday is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sunday's series finale will air on SEC Network at 11 a.m.
Fans can tune-in to KTGR (105.1 FM, 100.5 FM, 1580 AM) to catch the Tigers throughout the entire 2021 season with Tex Little and Matt Michaels on the call.
THE MATCHUP
- Mizzou trails the all-time series with Kentucky 11-8. The Tigers are 4-5 all-time in Lexington.
- In the most recent series in 2019, the Tigers took 2-of-3 from the Cats at Taylor Stadium.
- 18 of the 19 all-time meetings have come as SEC foes. The lone non-conference meeting came in 1984. Friday's series opener takes place exactly 37 years after the first-ever meeting between the Tigers and Cats.
TRENDING UP
- Mizzou produced its best week of the season going 4-1 in the lead-up to SEC play. The Tigers took 3-of-4 on the road against Illinois State and added another road victory in the midweek at Saint Louis.
- In the five-game week, the Tigers hit .289 as a team and averaged just shy of seven runs per game.
- Mizzou pitching held opponents to just .188 hitting on the week and produced its first shutout of the season in Friday's series opener at Illinois State.
- Sophomore Spencer Miles, freshman Ian Lohse and redshirt sophomore Seth Halvorsen all worked more than five innings on the week and produced 0.00 ERAs.
BELK BUSTS OUT
- Senior Brandt Belk snapped a cold-spell to start the season by hitting .526 last week to lead all Tigers. The lefty raised his season average by 126 points, going 10-for-19 at the plate over the past five games.
- Belk added a pair of doubles and a triple to slug .737 in the week. He picked up three RBI and led Mizzou with seven runs scored.
- The veteran also worked a pair of walks to reach at a .571 clip for the week and added a stolen base for good measure.
- Belk hit in all five games, marking his longest hitting streak of the year.
TORIN IT UP
- Sophomore Torin Montgomery was an RBI-machine for the Tigers at Illinois State. Montgomery drove in a team-best seven runs during the four-game series.
- Montgomery produced two multi-hit games and added a pair of multi-RBI games in the series. The right-hander hit .400 (6-for-15) on the weekend and recorded a hit in all-four games.
- The Boise State transfer added his second homer of the season and moved into second on the club with 11 RBI this season.
- Montgomery is one of five Tigers with three multi-RBI games this season. He has now reached base safely in nine consecutive appearances.
