COLUMBIA, MO – Mizzou men's golf freshaman Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson has been selected to represent Iceland at the 2021 Spirit International Golf Championship this week in Trinity, Texas from Nov. 4-6.
Sigurbrandsson is just one of two men selected by his home country of Iceland to compete in the Spirit, a premier amateur competition featuring the world's best men and women amateurs representing their respective countries in team and individual play. There are 20 countries in attendance with each country represented by two women and two men amateur golfers. The eighty competitors take part in a 3-day, 54-hole stroke play at the Whispering Pines Golf Club to compete for gold medals.
Wasting no time getting acclimated to the collegiate golf world, Sigurbrandsson competed in five of the Tigers' fall events as a freshman. His strong debut season was highlighted by his performance at the Husky Invitational where he fired a career-low round and event score with a 3-under 69 and 4-under 212, respectively, to finish tied for 11th place. Overall in the fall, Sigurbrandsson tallied four rounds under par and four Top-30 finishes.
Sigurbrandsson is set to tee of for the first round at 11:26 a.m. CT. A livestream of the competition will be available on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app, GolfStat.com and on TheSpiritGolf.com during the tournament. The Golf Channel will present a two-hour highlight show of the competition on Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. CT with an encore presentation on Dec. 11 from 3-5 p.m. CT.
