COLUMBIA, Mo. — Despite a team-high 17 points by Amari Davis, the Missouri men's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start falling to Wichita State, Friday evening at home, 61-55.
Wichita State (4-1) took the early lead, and despite multiple attempts, Mizzou was never able to overtake the Shocker's efforts. Down 12 with a minute and a half left, Mizzou went on an 8-2 run to end the game, but the clock ran out on any last-minute comeback attempt.
"We have to continue to improve on those layups at the rim and even those open threes," said head coach Cuonzo Martin. "Because you put so much pressure on yourself when you don't make those shots, especially when you turn them over 18 times and not capitalize on those opportunities. Give [Wichita State] credit."
In addition to Davis, Mizzou (3-3) was led by 10 points from Jarron Coleman who also tallied four assists and four rebounds. Kobe Brown led the Tigers on the boards for the second-time this season with eight.
