The Tigers get their first win over the Aggies since 2011.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (7-10, 3-7 SEC) closed out the 2021 season with a 1-0 win over Texas A&M (7-9-2, 3-6-1) for the Tigers' first win over the Aggies since 2011.
Despite being outshot by Texas A&M 22-6 in the match, the Tigers were able to take the victory thanks to a first half goal from Skye Kingsley.
The Tigers were able to score immediately after a corner kick. After the Aggies were unable to clear the initial ball into the box, Jenna McCormick was able to poke it over to Kingsley, and Kingsley was able to just get it past the keeper to put the Tigers on top 1-0.
Missouri rattled off four of its six total shots in the first half, including all three of the Tigers' shots on goal.
TURNING POINT
The Aggies controlled possession for the majority of the second half, playing in the Mizzou half of the field. Texas A&M fired 13 of their 22 shots in the second period, but McKenna Sheehan was able to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
Missouri nearly put the match away in the 80th minute, but Hannah Joella's shot deflected off of the left post to keep the lead to just one.
With 90 seconds to go, a ball that was in between Sheehan and the defense ended up causing a collision just outside the Mizzou 18-yard box. The official blew the whistle before the Aggies put the ball into the net. The collision with the Aggie attacker led to Sheehan being sent off with a red card and Texas A&M was given a free kick just a yard outside of the penalty area. Isabella Alessio entered in goal for Mizzou.
Texas A&M was unable to convert and the Tigers held on with 10 players for the final 90 seconds for the victory.
