Volunteer Coach Qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track & Field volunteer assistant coach Jillian Weir will represent Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the women's hammer throw, Athletics Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced Saturday. She will be amongst the nation's 57-athlete delegation.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track & Field volunteer assistant coach Jillian Weir will represent Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the women's hammer throw, Athletics Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced Saturday. She will be amongst the nation's 57-athlete delegation.

Weir competed collegiately at the University of Oregon, where she was two-time All-American. She is also the daughter of assistant coach Robert Weir, who was a three-time Olympian for Great Britain in the men's hammer throw (1984) and men's discus (1996, 2000).

The track and field competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will run from Friday, July 30 to Sunday, August 8.

"It means the world; I've always wanted to be an Olympian and I'm happy to have achieved that lifelong goal," Jillian Weir said.

"I am a very happy and very proud dad," Robert Weir said. "Jillian persevered, overcoming setbacks and injury to make her first Olympic team. She helped the throws program at Mizzou. Excited for her at the Tokyo Olympics."
