COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (5-5-3) will wrap up the regular season with a Saturday night showdown with the rival Kansas Jayhawks (6-3-3). The programs were slated to face off just a week ago, but positive tests and subsequent contact tracing within the Kansas program caused the game to be canceled.
Mizzou leads the all-time series 11-10-1 and the Tigers are 7-3 at home. It has been nearly a month since either team has played. Each team had their game against Notre Dame canceled along with last week's cancelation.
It will be the first game in the month of April for each program. The only common opponent on the season for Mizzou and Kansas is nearby Kansas State. The Jayhawks played the Wildcats twice, winning 2-0 in the first match and playing to a scoreless draw in the second. Mizzou's last opponent was the Kansas State Wildcats and the Tigers were able to put up three goals, but the game ultimately ended in a draw.
One of the highlights of the Kansas State game was forward Madilyn Hamline. The freshman recorded both her first and second goals of the season in the contest. Hamline went on to be named the SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance, the second Tiger to receive the honor in the 2020-21 season.
Julissa Cisneros also had a productive game for the Tigers against Kansas State. The junior from California had a highlight-reel goal early in the contest to give Mizzou the lead in the sixth minute and she assisted Hamline's goal late in the second half to give Mizzou a 3-1 lead.
