Marshall Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Amaya Marshall of the No. 25 Mizzou gymnastics team was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. She became the fifth Tiger in program history to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Amaya Marshall of the No. 25 Mizzou gymnastics team was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. She became the fifth Tiger in program history to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors. 

Marshall won the all-around crown in Mizzou's 196.175-196.000 win over No. 19 Auburn on Feb. 12 at the Hearnes Center. The freshman recorded scores of 9.825 on bars, 9.775 on vault and floor and 9.700 on beam for her all-around total of 39.075 for the first title of her Tiger career. 

A native on Kannapolis, N.C., Marshall has competed in all five meets for the Tigers in 2021, including three appearances in the all-around. She owns career-best scores of 9.875 on floor, 9.85 on bars, 9.825 on vault, 9.7 on beam and 39.200 in the all-around. Four of her five bars and floor scores have gone for 9.8 or better, with season averages of 9.830 on floor and 9.8 on bars. 

Marshall and the Tigers return to action on Friday, Feb. 19 when the team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on No. 5 Arkansas at 7:30 p.m. The meet will be televised live on SEC Network.
