COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou gymnastics team gave fans a preview of the 2021 season with its annual Black & Gold Practice Friday night at the Hearnes Center.
KEY PERFORMANCES
The Tigers started the evening on vault, as three Tigers earned scores of 9.8 or better. Junior Hannah McCrary (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and freshman Jena Swanson (Glendive, Mont.) both tallied 9.85s, while sophomore Sienna Schreiber (Cumming, Ga.) scored a 9.8.
On bars in the second rotation, junior Alisa Sheremeta (Circleville, N.Y.) paced the squad with a 9.85 in the anchor position. Senior Chelsey Christensen (Rapid City, S.D.) and freshman Amaya Marshall (Kannapolis, N.C.) claimed identical scores of 9.8, and Swanson went a 9.75. Sophomore Hollyn Patrick (Lafayette, Colo.) added a 9.8.
Schreiber closed the beam rotation with a near-perfect routine to earn a 9.95 on the event. Three other Tigers hit the 9.8 mark, with Sheremeta claiming a 9.85 and McCrary and senior Gabrielle Gottula (Spring, Texas) posting 9.8s. Marshall also hit her routine for a 9.75 and Christensen and freshman Sydney Schaffer (Andover, Kan.) both had 9.7s.
In the final rotation, Sheremeta again led the way with a team-best 9.9 on floor. Both McCrary and Schreiber closed their nights with 9.8s, Gottula earned a 9.75 and Marshall added a 9.7.
UP NEXT
The Tigers officially open the 2021 season on Friday, Jan. 8 when the team travels to Athens, Ga., to take on Georgia. Mizzou then welcomes Alabama to the Hearnes Center on Friday, Jan. 15 for the home opener.
