Mizzou Swimming & Diving Set for Three-Day Mizzou Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 17/20 Mizzou swimming and diving teams return to action on Thursday, Nov. 19 for the three-day Mizzou Invite. Schedule for Thursday-Saturday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center, the Tigers will compete against Kentucky and Arkansas (women only) in the swimming pool, and BYU and Kentucky in the diving well. Swimming prelims will commence each day at 9 a.m., with swimming finals set for 6 p.m. Diving prelims will begin at 12:30 p.m. all three days. On Thursday the men's 1-meter final will start following prelims, while the women's 3-meter final will follow swimming finals. On Friday, the women's 1-meter final will occur after diving prelims and the men's 3-meter final will take place after swimming finals. On Saturday, men's and women's platform finals will both follow diving prelims.
Attendance is open to team pass lists but finals will be broadcast live on SEC Network +. Live results will be available on Meet Mobile.
LAST TIME OUT
The Tigers last competed on Nov. 7, when the women locked down a victory over Arkansas, 185.5-114.5, and the men beat Missouri state, 193-92. Individually, four different Tigers won multiple events. Junior Danny Kovac and sophomore Ben Patton both finished with three wins each, while senior Sarah Thompson and sophomore Carlo Lopez both earned two wins.
Patton won all three of his individual races for the second meet in a row earning top honors in the 100 breast (53.41), 200 back (1:48.05), and 100 fly (47.56) and Kovac had wins in the 200 fly, 100 free, and 200 IM with times of 1:43.20, 44.80, and 1:46.62.
In the diving well, Carol Lopez, swept the 1-meter and 3- meter competitions for the second meet this season, as he took top honors on 3- meter with a score of 363.7 and went 325.1 on 1-meter. Thompson clocked wins in the 100 free and 100 fly, with times of 48.80 and 52.65, respectively.
TIGERS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mizzou men's and women's programs are ranked 17th and 20th in the CSCAA Division I Preseason Polls.
A total of 18 Tiger are currently ranked in the top 20 of their individual events. Most notably, junior Megan Keil holds the nation's fastest 50 free time. Addionally, senior Sarah Thompson and junior Danny Kovac both rank second in events, with Thompson ranked second in both the 100 free and 100 fly, and Kovac in the 100 fly.
THOMPSON NAMED SEC WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
For the second time in her career, Sarah Thompson was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 10. The senior also earned the award a year ago on Nov. 12, 2019.
Thompson won two individual event titles to help propel Mizzou to a 185.5-114.5 win over Arkansas on Nov. 7. The senior earned top honors in both the 100 fly and 100 free, with times of 52.65 and 48.80, respectively. Her 100 fly time of 52.65 was a personal-best and currently stands as the top time in the nation this season. The time also moved her up to seventh all-time at Mizzou in the event. Thompson's 48.80 in the 100 free was just off her season-best of 48.69, which currently ranks second nationally. In addition to her national rankings in the 100 fly and 100 free, Thompson also owns the country's top time in the 100 back and is ranked second in the 50 free. Overall, she has three event wins on the year and NCAA 'B' cuts in four different events (50 free, 100 free, 100 back and 100 fly).
A six-time All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier, Thompson owns Mizzou's 50 free record and ranks third in the 100 free and 100 back, fourth in the 200 back and seventh in the 100 fly. As a junior in 2019-20, she won a team-best nine event titles and finished the shortened season ranked fifth nationally in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 back.
