
Men’s Golf Caps Off Fall Season with Best Season Team Performance

Senior Rory Franssen paced the squad with career-low 11-under par
Columbia, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Golf closed its 2020 fall campaign Tuesday at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Alabama. The team finished 11th against the all-SEC competition, posting a season-low 281 first round, ending the tournament with an overall 10-over 850. The spotlight for the Tigers was on senior Rory Franssen (Inverness, Scotland), who placed third out of a field of 70 golfers.
Franssen kicked off the event with seven birdies, tying his then career-low score of 67. He backed the first round performance off with a historic second round, firing an 8-under 62, marking his new career-low and making him just the fourth Mizzou Men's golfer to record a 62 or better in program history.
He rounded out his impressive performance with an even 70 on Tuesday, to end the tournament with a career-low 11-under 199, beating his previous best set in the spring of his freshman year by six strokes. Franssen's 54-hole score also marked him as only the sixth individual tournament score of 199 or lower in Tiger history. His performance included a total of 18 birdies and tallied his sixth career Top-5 finish.
Redshirt sophomore Ross Steelman (Columbia, Mo.) also recorded back-to-back rounds under-par in the first and second rounds with a 69 and 67, respectively. He finished the tournament with a 72 on Tuesday, pushing him to stand at T-16 with an overall 2-under par. This marks his second consecutive event under par and the fifth of his career.
Sophomore Yu-Ta Tsai (Taipei, Taiwan) came back firing in the final round on Tuesday to set a new career round-low, recording a 2-under 68, to rebound from his previous round scores of 75 and 78. He moved up the leaderboard to end at T-58 with an 11-over 221.
Senior Jack Parker (Columbia, Mo.) recorded a 73 in the first round and fought back on day three to card a 74 to recover from his second round 78. He racked up a total of six birdies and finished in 66th place.
Junior Tommy Boone (Plano, Texas) highlighted the final fall tournament with his day one 2-over 72 which included three birdies. He ended the in 67th place.
The Tigers will return in the new year for their spring 2021 season.
