Tigers and Bobcats wrestle at 6 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night at Hearnes Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 23 Mizzou Wrestling (5-4, 2-0 MAC) will be on the home mat for the first time since Nov. 21 this Friday (Jan. 10) as it welcomes MAC foe Ohio to the Hearnes Center for a 6 p.m. dual. The Tigers will then round out weekend competition with a road trip to Northern Iowa for a 2 p.m. dual Sunday.
Friday's dual with Ohio is Mizzou's annual Military Appreciation night as all military members and veterans receive a free ticket with an ID. Guests of military members will receive $4 tickets as well. Contact the Mizzou ticket office at 1-800-CAT-PAWS for details.
Additionally, Mizzou volunteer assistant coach and recent USA Wrestling Senior Freestyle National Champion Dom Bradley will be speaking to Mat Side Club members 30 minutes prior to Mizzou's dual. He will recap his first-place finish at the National Championships and talk about his next move, which includes the Olympic Trials in April at Penn State.
Mizzou is returning to its home Hearnes Center for the first time since a doubleheader sweep of Missouri Valley (45-0) and Central Missouri (39-3) on Nov. 21. This weekend's competition is also the first for Mizzou since the calendar rolled to 2020. Mizzou was last in action at the annual South Beach Duals from Dec. 29-30 in Fort Lauderdale. Mizzou went 2-2 at the event, defeating MAC foe Old Dominion and Wyoming on that Sunday before falling to No. 24 Cornell, 19-18, and No. 14 Lehigh, 22-9, during the final day of competition.
Looking at the series history between Mizzou and Ohio, the Tigers are 7-0 against the Bobcats all-time. Six of the seven meetings between Mizzou and Ohio have come since Mizzou moved to the MAC for the 2012-13 season. In those six meetings, Mizzou is a perfect 6-0 and the average score of the duals has been 29.3-10.3, including a 30-12 win a year ago in Athens. The only other meeting came during the 2004-05 season with Mizzou claiming a 38-9 win. The Bobcats are 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in MAC competition and are coming off of a 35-6 loss to No. 20 Oklahoma Sunday.
On Sunday, the Tigers renew a longtime rivalry with Northern Iowa with the dual being the 32nd all-time matchup between to the two storied programs. Mizzou trails the all-time series with UNI, 18-13, but has won the last two meetings (29-12 a year ago and 23-9 in 2017-18). Dating back to the 2014-15 season, Mizzou has won four of the last five meetings. UNI is 1-2 on the season and is coming off of a 32-12 win over Utah Valley last Saturday. The Panthers will host South Dakota State Friday before welcoming Mizzou Sunday.
