Mizzou Volleyball Produces Seventh Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award

Mizzou Volleyball was recognized for its collective success in the classroom with the 2019-20 United States Marine Corps (USMC) / American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced Monday by the organizations.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball was recognized for its collective success in the classroom with the 2019-20 United States Marine Corps (USMC) / American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced Monday by the organizations.

"This is the real cap to an outstanding performance in the classroom by our ladies this school year," said Mizzou Volleyball head coach Joshua Taylor. "This program puts academic prowess at the top of our team goals and our squad established a new standard in 2019-20. The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award is exactly that, a true team effort. I'm very proud of this group!"

Mizzou concluded its 2019-20 academic calendar with a program record spring semester 3.74 grade-point average. The Tigers have surpassed a 3.50 collective GPA in six consecutive spring semesters at the University of Missouri. Historically, Mizzou has exceeded a 3.0 group GPA in 16 of its past 17 spring semesters.

Earlier this month, sophomores Claudia Dillon and Kenna Sauer were named to the 2019-20 First-Year Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. The duo joined the six individuals (Kylie Deberg, Leketor Member-Meneh, Tyanna Omazic, Riley Sents, Sun Wenting and Katie Turner) recognized in the 2019 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll in February.

Mizzou has regularly enjoyed high academic success rates in the classroom over the years. Beginning with the 2014-15 academic school year, the Tigers posted four consecutive 1,000 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. Historically, Mizzou has surpassed a 3.0 team GPA in 27 of its past 31 combined fall and spring semesters at the University of Missouri.

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
