COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball has announced the addition of Hannah Vargas to the roster, head coach Larissa Anderson announced today.
Vargas (Chandler, Ariz.) will join the program as a freshman, alongside the eight prep athletes who signed NLIs in November. The group is heralded as the nation's 28th-ranked recruiting class, according to Extra Innings Softball.
A middle infielder and outfielder, Vargas competed for Hamilton High School and the Arizona Firecrackers on the prep and club levels, respectively. Hamilton went 59-18 during her first three season, winning a 6A state title her freshman season.
On the travel ball circuit, Vargas was selected for the All-Start Game in the Colorado Sparkler, where she was selected as the player of the game in 2017.
"From the moment I arrived on campus, I felt like I was home," Vargas said. "The journalism program is top-notch, and the team made me feel welcome. I feel that I have a lot of opportunities to succeed at Mizzou."
"Hannah will bring athleticism and a positive attitude to Mizzou," Anderson said. "She's committed to this university and this program, and I look forward to her joining the program."
Vargas chose Mizzou over Houston, New Mexico State, South Dakota State and Northern Colorado. She intends to major in journalism.
